MV 'Harpooner' built 1912 at Akers, Norway
Expeditionary Cruises on a historic vessel
The 'Harpooner' was built as 'Bjerk' in 1912 for the Norwegian whaling fleet. In 1940 she was commandeered by the Norwegian Navy and put in use as a guard boat. Later she was evacuated to Scotland and used as a mine sweeper and training vessel. After the war she was returned to the owners but not put back in service. Laid up until 1955 when she was sold and converted to combined fishing vessel/cargo ship. In 1988 “Bjerk” was sold to England as a private yacht, in 1995 she was sold and converted to a environmental protection vessel and over the next years she was used to clean birds at oil spills. Despite the many conversions, “Harpooner” maintains most of her original character.
Today her use has changed to the contrary of her original purpose. She is used for expeditionary cruising and watching of the marine life she was originally designed to hunt... A much better approach ?
She is fully equipped for diving and takes up to 12 guests on board. Served by a crew of 4 plus additional guides for diving or expeditions. Guests are also welcome to take part in the navigation of the ship and all of the planning involved. But who just wants to relax is invited to indulge on her vast deck areas just the same.
